We are seeing unprecedented cold temperatures for a long stretch of time in February 2021 due to the impact of Winter Storm Uri. Within the context of this emergency, for all local pool owners that are currently hoping to protect your pool, pool cleaning & heating equipment, and accessory pumps, we recommend you not attempt winterize your pool in the midst of this crisis, unless you have failing equipment. Proper winterization requires blowing out the pool lines and plugging them.

Instead, ramp up the speeds on variable speed pumps to over 3,000RPMs and cover all pool equipment with a tarp. Applying heat tape on the pipes and/or a heat lamp under the tarp will also be of some benefit. Break up ice of any kind that has built up on the pool, in or around all skimmers.

If you must winterize your pool, cover your spa with a tarp and place a heat lamp underneath the tarp, but outside of the spa, to keep the pipes in the spa walls thawed.

Please keep in mind:

  • these are only recommendations in response to very rare current local conditions

  • there are no guarantees as to what we will be facing once this winter storm crisis is behind us

Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
